Grand Egyptian Museum
The complete 2026 visitor guide to GEM — tickets, highlights, how to get there, and what not to miss in the world's most ambitious museum project.
About the Museum
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is the world's largest archaeological museum complex dedicated to a single civilization. Covering 500,000 square meters (about 70 soccer fields), with 92,000 square meters of gallery space and 40,000 square meters of commercial space, it is Egypt's most ambitious cultural project in over a century.
Designed by Irish firm Heneghan Peng Architects — who beat 1,557 competitors from 82 countries — the museum opened fully on November 4, 2025. The building's facade is a spectacular combination of alabaster and glass, decorated with triangles of different sizes and colors as an ode to Ancient Egypt.
The crown jewel of the museum is the complete Tutankhamun collection — over 5,000 artifacts from the boy king's tomb, displayed together for the first time in history. The 3,200-year-old, 82-tonne statue of Ramses II welcomes visitors into the vast atrium.
